Troubleshooting & FAQ
Solutions to common problems when working with electrofishing surveys.
Field Data Collection
Weather data won't fetch
If auto-fetch fails:
- Check that location services are enabled on your device
- Make sure you have GPS signal
- You can always enter weather manually if needed
Reports
Can't insert an image
Check:
- File size must be under 50MB
- Make sure you clicked Insert after uploading
Report won't export to PDF
Try:
- From the report preview page, hit ctrl+p or select the print option in your browser
- If it still fails, check with your administrator
Templates
Variable not populating in template
Common issues:
- Make sure you typed the variable name exactly (case-sensitive)
- Use
{{VARIABLE_NAME}}format with double curly braces - Some variables only work if data exists (e.g., species variables need fish data)
Common Questions
- Data Entry
- Reports
Q: Can I edit a fish entry after saving it? A: Yes, tap on the entry in the list to edit length, weight, or notes.
Q: What if I accidentally saved the wrong species? A: Fish metrics can be deleted from the EFS job before a report is created. If you already created a report and need to edit a metric, make the change in the job and then create a new report for that job from the reports page.
Q: Can I edit a report after exporting? A: Yes. The PDF is just an export. Your report in Zero Desk stays editable. You can swap back and forth between the editor and the published report as much as you need.
Q: How do I share a report with multiple people? A: Zero Desk does not yet support direct emails to clients nor sharable links. To share a report, print it to a PDF and email the file or upload to your cloud storage.
Q: Can I create a report for a Pond Management job? A: This feature is under active development and should be available soon!
